DETAIL · WINDOW-TO-WALL JOINT

Water gets in at the joint, not through the glass

A window only keeps water out together with the detail around it: a three-layer joint, an outer sill and frame drainage. ASB deals with leaks, so it treats a window as a building detail, not just a product.

Outer joint layerShields the installation joint from rain and sun while letting moisture out of the joint.
  2. 02
Installation foamFills and insulates the gap between frame and wall. Sunlight breaks it down, so it must not stay exposed.
  3. 03
Inner joint layerKeeps room vapour out of the joint. Without it the foam gets damp from inside and the reveal turns dark and cold.
  4. 04
Outer sillTucked under the frame, sloped outwards and projecting past the wall so water drips clear instead of running down the facade.
  5. 05
Frame drainageWater that reaches the lower channel of the frame leaves through drain holes. If they are blocked, it comes into the room.

WATER IS ALREADY COMING IN

A wet reveal or sill does not always mean a new window

Water often comes from above: from the roof, the parapet or down the facade. The engineer finds the source and gives you a written report. The visit costs 100 ₾ and is deducted from the estimate if you order the work.

Questions about windows

01What sizes should I enter?

The width and height of the opening or the old window, in millimetres. Approximate sizes are enough for a quote: exact ones are taken at a site measurement before manufacturing.

02What profile is used and where are the windows made?

The profile comes from the Turkish manufacturer ASAŞ. The windows are made in Georgia to the size of your opening.

03What is the difference between a turn and a tilt-and-turn sash?

A turn sash opens inwards like a door. A tilt-and-turn sash can also tilt in at the top for ventilation. A fixed sash does not open, so the outside of the glass cannot be reached from the room.

04There is water on the window: condensation or a leak?

Droplets on the room side of the glass are usually condensation: high humidity and too little ventilation. Water on the reveal or under the sill after rain is a leak, and its source has to be found: the joint, the outer sill or the facade above the window.

05Can I order windows together with waterproofing?

Yes, mention it in your request. This matters most on terraces: the waterproofing goes under the door threshold, so the threshold and door are best planned together with it.
